The other day I wrote a new song called ‘The House’. As I was writing it, I started thinking about the idea of home and what it really means…
My song might’ve been called ‘The House’, but it’s really nothing to do with the house itself. The house is just an object that encases the feeling of home...and that’s the important bit.
When you think of a house fondly, it’s everything that you associate with the house. If it’s the front door, it’s because you used to look at it everyday when you came home from school, if it’s the wallpaper, it’s because you remember your parents put it up just before Christmas one year.
I was thinking that home is actually a feeling that we associate with things other than places too. I love the saying “Wherever I am with you, I am home”. I honestly think that we can feel the comfort of home with a person - not just your other half, but friends and family too. And with other things like a snuggly jumper you’ve had for ages, or a car, or a mug you have your tea in!
Home is so much more than the objects themselves - it’s the comforting feeling of attachment, and really - we carry little pieces of home around with us wherever we go. :)
Over and out. x
